Another First Impression

Today is a big day for us.  In about an hour we will drive two hours away to meet with the elders and a few members from a possible sponsoring or partnering church.  It's big for two reasons.

Relationship.  I believe that in Church planting you must have a relationship with an older established church for balance.  Since the relationship with our current church did not evolve into our partnering church it is very important to me that we connect with another established church that we already know some of the members.  We have that kind of relationship with this church.  They are AMAZING people and they are fired up and ready for planting churches.  They know that the church that plants will be encouraged and changed as much as the lives of those reached by the planters.  I pray that God has been organizing this relationship for years and we are about to see it come to a beautiful depth in the next few years.

Security.  There's no doubt about it, if you are planting a church you are going to need funding.  Having a place to call "home", to have the funding run through, and to have a portion of our total goal pledged would be extremely affirming.  I, as a mother and church planter will feel more secure once this step is in place.  If not today, then whenever it happens.  We have been slow and steady in this progression because we want to be wise with our life choices.  The fundraising for Basilea is no different.

Please pray for us today. (If you are reading this after the fact, pray anyway... I believe He transcends time when it comes to prayers offered.)  And hopefully I'll be blogging again soon to share the emotions of today.

The Call

We are church planters. Have we planted a church yet? No, but deep down in my being I know that God  has called us to bring the Kingdom to the lost and the hurting of this world. I'm scared.   This is so far beyond my comfort zone.  I like being a good girl that encourages other Christians and just raises my family up in the Lord. But this? This calling... it's not about being a good girl or encouraging others and it's not even just about my family (though that has a lot to do with it.)  It's about responding to the Gospel call.  It's about doing more than I ever imagined in regards to my faith.  It's a searching beyond what I normally would consider. The first question that comes to my mind has to do with my theological beliefs.  What I believe about eschatology (what happens when we die) will greatly determine not only my missiology (how/why I tell others) but also my ecclesiology (what church should look like). I know that I want to s...

What a Difference a Year Makes...

I looked at this blog and realized that I wrote the last post exactly one year ago today. What a difference a year can make. We are not in San Jose. We are not in San Jose because God called us to a different home. Weed, California. "What? Weed?" you say! Yes, When we were but four short months from packing our home and moving to San Jose, God in his quiet way told us He had a different plan. Not the big city, but the small town.  Not the dense & diverse population, but the small & hurting population.  Not the grand plans of a church plant, but the grounded plans of a church revitalization. Not my will, but Thine. So one year later we are settled into the parsonage, next to the building nestled at the base of the beautiful Mount Shasta. We have chickens in our back yard and temperatures that drop below freezing. Though it is not the plan we had for ourselves, it is truly a plan laid out and blessed by God. I am affirmed in this every time a new person steps fo...

Short Night~Long Day

It was a short night. For reasons that will go unnamed I only got about five hours of sleep last night. If you know me at all, that is not enough.  Today will be a very long day. It seems that things often go this way.     Yesterday was a very fulfilling, productive and relaxing day. I got the house cleaned, I made some important phone calls, and I prepped crock pot meals for our very busy evenings this week. So, of course, because yesterday was incredibly kind, today will show me my desperate need for Jesus (and coffee). Does this happen to you? Does this cycle repeat in your life as well? Sometimes it takes longer than 24 hours for my cycle to repeat. Sometimes it happens by season, but inevitably it happens. It happens because that is life. It's very cliche to say, but it's true. I look at the book of Ecclesiastes for my encouragement at times like this. It's so easy to cling to the lows and the statement of "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meani...
